The Unveiling
8Silence, and the first four trumpets

And when it opened the seventh seal, there was silence in the sky for about half an hour.

And I saw the seven messengers who stand in front of God, and they were given seven trumpets. Another messenger came and stood at the altar holding a gold censer, and he was given a great deal of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all God’s people, on the gold altar in front of the throne. And the smoke of the incense went up out of the messenger’s hand into God’s presence, together with the prayers of God’s people. Then the messenger took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it down onto the earth — and there was thunder and voices and lightning and an earthquake.

Then the seven messengers holding the seven trumpets got ready to blow them.

The first one blew, and hail and fire mixed with blood came, and it was thrown down onto the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

The second messenger blew, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned to blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

The third messenger blew, and a great star fell out of the sky, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned to wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it had turned bitter.

The fourth messenger blew, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them went dark — and the day lost a third of its light, and the night the same.

And I looked, and I heard a single eagle flying high overhead, calling out in a loud voice: “Trouble, trouble, trouble for those living on the earth, because of the trumpet blasts still to come from the three messengers who are about to sound.”
