The Unveiling
4The throne

After this I looked, and there was a door standing open in the sky. And the first voice I had heard, the one like a trumpet speaking with me, said: “Come up here, and I will show you what has to happen after this.”

Straight away I was in the Spirit. And there was a throne standing in the sky, with someone sitting on it. The one sitting there looked like jasper and carnelian, and there was a rainbow around the throne that looked like emerald.

Around the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and on them sat twenty-four elders, dressed in white, with gold crowns on their heads. Out of the throne came lightning and voices and thunder. Seven torches were burning in front of the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. In front of the throne was something like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.

In the middle, around the throne, were four living creatures, covered with eyes front and back. The first creature was like a lion, the second like an ox, the third had a face like a human, and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of the four had six wings, and they were covered with eyes all around and underneath. Day and night they never stop saying:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Ruler over everything, who was and who is and who is coming.”

And whenever the creatures give glory and honour and thanks to the one sitting on the throne, who lives into the ages, the twenty-four elders fall down in front of the one sitting on the throne and bow to the one who lives into the ages, and they throw their crowns down in front of the throne, saying:

“You deserve, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honour and the power. You made everything. Everything exists, and was made, because you wanted it.”
